Painting
At Herron you don’t have to make room to make art. Painters have the spaces and resources they need. The Painting program studios are situated on the second floor of the spectacular new building of the Herron School of Art and Design. Painting I & II, as well as Drawing III & IV, students work in close relation with their faculty members in four studios of over 1,000 sq. feet each during their sophomore year in fine arts.
Students in their junior year are enrolled in both Painting III & IV, as well as the Concepts of Figuration class, which share the space of one of the most spacious and light filled studios in the entire school. It is just under 4,000 sq, ft. and includes ample floor and wall space as well as a built in critique room for all of the third year painting majors.
The painting program of the Herron School of Art and Design provides up to 25 senior painting majors, enrolled in Painting V & VI, with individual studios of approximately 125 sq. ft. each. These studios are all furnished with individual easels, worktables and taborets, chairs or stools, and secure storage lockers. Hazardous materials disposal areas and clean up sinks are also provided.
In addition to these studio areas, there are two separate critique rooms directly across the hallway from the senior painting studios. One smaller, and a second larger one, function for critiques, slide lectures, and group discussions throughout the academic year.
