Hundreds of artists, designers, scholars, and educators working today started their professional lives in earnest at Herron School of Art and Design.
With nearly 900 undergraduates, 70+ faculty members, and a dedicated staff, Herron provides its students with the personalized attention more commonly found at costly private art schools—and Herron will do the same for you.
Herron is the only accredited, professional art school in the state of Indiana. This is important because the Midwest has long been recognized as a region where determination and a strong work ethic set the tone. These qualities thrive at Herron, right along with current technology and global influences.
Though small class sizes and a sense of community define much of the Herron experience, students have access to all of the resources offered at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus, including scholarships, academic departments, and housing. Herron’s new home, Eskenazi Hall, is located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, a city with a thriving art and cultural scene. “The best of both worlds” is an apt description of Herron because it is a professional art and design school within a large research university.
Why study at Herron? Because at Herron your ideas will flourish, and you will learn and perfect techniques critical to expressing them. You will work in state-of-the-art facilities under the mentorship of accomplished artists, designers, and scholars, and you will receive the practical training necessary to become an effective artist, or art professional in the 21st-century world. You will form lifelong relationships and adopt a lifelong openness to innovation. This is the dynamic experience that will mark your Herron education—and shape your professional future.
