Herron's graduate programs give students who are serious about extending their activities and approaches in new ways a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive learning environment. As a graduate student, you will be given every opportunity to explore your discipline and experiment with other techniques, materials and procedures.

Application timelines

M.A. PROGRAM IN ART THERAPY

Online applications for Herron's M.A. program for the 2026–2027 academic year will open on September 5, 2025, with a submission deadline of January 15, 2026

M.DES., AND M.F.A. PROGRAMS

Online applications for Herron's M.Des. and M.F.A. programs for the 2026–2027 academic year will openon September 5, 2025. The priority deadline for funding consideration is January 15, 2026, and the final deadline to submit a completed application is April 1, 2026.

M.S. AND Ph.D. PROGRAMS IN MUSIC ARTS

Online applications for Herron's graduate degrees in Music Technology for the 2026–2027 academic year will open on September 5, 2025. To be considered for funding, applicants must submit their application by the priority deadline of January 15, 2026, and all supplemental materials by January 22, 2026. The final deadline to submit a completed application is April 1, 2026.

Graduate programs in Music Therapy are currently undergoing a redesign, and applications for the 2026–2027 academic year will not be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact Herron’s Office of Admissions and Student Services at 317-278-9400 or hadmit@iu.edu.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN DESIGN THINKING

The Graduate Certificate in Design Thinking program accepts online applications between the dates listed below.

  • Fall admission: Sept. – Aug. 10
  • Spring admission: May 1 – Dec. 11
