Evenings at Herron

Evenings At Herron non-credit art classes for adults and for high school students take place at Herron School of Art and Design’s Eskenazi Hall one night a week. Students have opportunities to strengthen studio art skills, meet other creative people and experience Herron. Class sizes are limited, ensuring one-on-one attention from instructor.

Spring 2012 Dates: February 22 through April 11 (no class March 14 - IUPUI Spring Break, class will also meet on Thursday, April 5 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art)

Course Offerings

Experimental 2-D Mixed Media

*for adults and high school students

Explore a variety of two-dimensional expressions that will help build upon and expand artistic skills and methods. The first part of the semester will focus on drawing and using wet and dry media, followed by a mixture of observational drawing and collage creation. Teaching will be based around hands-on learning, encouraging experimentation with 2-D materials and with ideas. To further facilitate challenging and meaningful learning for students of all skill levels, there will be additional activities or concepts for advanced students to work on, as well as an emphasis on one-on-one evaluation and instruction. Students will need to bring a sketchbook and drawing materials. Lab fee will cover cost of all other materials.

Clay Constructions: Handbuilding

*for adults and high school students

An introduction to making creative and functional ceramic art using the basic techniques of handbuilding. Students will explore multiple methods of creating with clay, from using coil forms, slabs and molds to draping, carving, stamping, glazing and other surface design methods. Lab fee will cover cost of all materials except for a sketchbook.
