Richmond couple continues support to Herron
Think about those organizations and causes that are important to you. Maybe it’s the mission of the organization that interests you. Maybe it’s the vision of the leadership. Or, maybe it’s the individuals who are served by the organization that places it at the top of your list. Whatever the reason, chances are that you support those organizations that are important to you.
Herron School of Art and Design is fortunate to recognize a very special couple who ranks Indiana’s only professional school of art and design at the top of their list. As residents of Richmond, Indiana, this couple has supported Herron for more than 25 years. Giving both of their time and financial resources, Wayne and Jane Vincent continue to invest in Herron’s academic programs and community outreach initiatives.
Wayne, a semi-retired owner of Planned Benefit Services, Inc., an insurance and employee benefits company, shares, “In the past I traveled between Indianapolis and Richmond quite regularly. While in Indianapolis, I would often stop by the Herron Gallery at 16th and Pennsylvania Streets. There always seemed to be an exciting and innovative exhibition going on.”
Eventually, the Vincents began purchasing original artwork and are considered collectors with a special interest in contemporary art. Wayne adds, “We have several pieces of work by Herron students and faculty. It’s exciting to collect work by local artists and watch their careers grow.”
Jane, emeritus faculty of Indiana University School of Nursing, currently facilitates nursing courses for Indiana Wesleyan University. She finds Herron’s home, now on the campus of IUPUI, an outstanding venue for creativity. Jane shares, “When you walk into a building, the atmosphere of that building plays such a large factor in stimulating one’s creativity. Herron’s students are very fortunate to have such an environment.”
Wayne and Jane can be proud knowing their past support to Herron’s capital campaign helped make the construction of Eskenazi Hall a reality. In addition, Wayne served on the capital campaign’s steering committee, helping the school’s first-ever capital campaign reach its $17 million dollar fundraising goal.
Most recently, the Vincents made a gift to the Friends of Herron Fund, which provides support to the school’s most pressing needs, including gallery programming, academic programs and community outreach initiatives. Wayne shares, “Support to the Friends of Herron is especially important. It helps the school go above and beyond what tuition and public assistance can provide. It’s one reason behind Herron’s longtime reputation as one of the best schools in the country.”
Support from the Vincents is far reaching. In addition to the Friends of Herron, they have supported the Gallery Fund, the Reverend A.G. Fraser Travel Fund and have attended numerous special events.
“We’ll continue supporting Herron. It’s a vital institution to the community and beyond,” states Wayne. “And, I’ll continue stopping by the Herron Galleries to see what’s new in the world of contemporary exhibitions.”
